Actress Linda Mtoba has publicly condemned the worsening state of Johannesburg’s roads, calling them dangerous and disgraceful.
Taking to Instagram Stories, Mtoba posted images of pothole-ridden streets and expressed deep frustration over the city’s decay.
“It’s like this EVERYWHERE!” she wrote. “Sewage flows, uneven surfaces, no signage—just filth.”
She revealed she had replaced two tyres in one year, each costing R15,000, due to road damage. “When I say I HATE it, I mean it!” she added.
Describing Johannesburg’s decline over the past five years, Mtoba recalled narrowly avoiding an accident after hitting a massive pothole. “I’m sure these potholes cause major accidents that cost lives unnecessarily,” she said.
Calling the city’s deterioration shocking, she noted: “The richest square mile in Africa is littered with potholes and sewage.”
Mtoba’s fans also flooded her inbox with horror stories of their own, citing costly repairs and fears for safety.
According to The Citizen, Johannesburg recorded over 12,000 pothole reports in early 2023 alone, with R24.9 million paid out in claims from damaged vehicles — a clear sign of a city grappling with crumbling infrastructure.
