Lizzo has gotten candid about her health journey in a recent sit-down with Trisha Paytas on the Just Trish podcast, shedding light on her brief experience with the weight loss drug Ozempic and how a major shift in her eating habits ultimately made the biggest difference.
Known for her strong advocacy for body positivity, the “About Damn Time” hitmaker admitted to trying Ozempic, a medication popularized for weight loss, but ultimately decided it wasn’t the right path for her.
“I tried everything. Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full,” she explained.
“But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it’s the same thing.”
Instead of relying on medication, Lizzo found her turning point through a change in diet. Reflecting on her former vegan lifestyle, she revealed that while her intentions were healthy, her food choices were not necessarily benefiting her body.
“What did it for me is, it was not being vegan,” she said.
“Because when I was vegan, I was consuming a lot of fake meats. I was eating a lot of bread, I was eating a lot of rice and I had to eat a lot of it to stay full. But really I was consuming 3,000-5,000 calories a day.”
Lizzo went on to share that switching to whole foods—like beef, chicken, and fish—helped her feel fuller with less intake.
“I was actually full and not expanding my stomach by putting a lot of fake things in there that wasn’t actually filling me up,” she added. “I feel like I worked really really hard and it was intentional with what I did with my body.”
Lizzo’s remarks come at a time when conversations around body image, weight loss, and health are evolving in the public eye. Her openness adds a layer of authenticity to a dialogue that often gets clouded by trends, judgment, and pressure.
