Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has initiated legal action against TikTok influencer Timothy Gabriel (popularly known as Tuma) for alleged defamation targeting him and his wife, Regina Daniels.
In an official statement released by the Ned Nwoko Media Directorate and provided to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nwoko accused Gabriel of spreading “vile, reckless, and malicious statements” aimed at damaging their reputations.
“We have taken full notice of the defamatory lies directed at my wife, Regina Daniels, and myself, made repeatedly with intent to provoke and incite,” Nwoko stated.
The senator condemned the misuse of digital platforms to spread falsehoods under the guise of activism, warning that freedom of expression does not cover slander or blackmail.
Nwoko disclosed that his legal team is pursuing both criminal and civil suits against Gabriel and possible collaborators, labeling the TikToker’s remarks—particularly those questioning Daniels’ paternity and morality—as “false, dangerous, and criminally prosecutable.”
“Those who think they can assassinate character and escape justice are about to face the full weight of Nigeria’s legal system,” Nwoko warned.
Meanwhile, Gabriel confirmed via social media that he had been invited by the Nigeria Police for questioning following a petition from Nwoko. Shortly after, reports emerged that Gabriel had been detained.
“I’m confident in my innocence and eager to clarify the matter,” Gabriel said before his detention.
Regina Daniels, who married Nwoko in 2019, is also involved in national politics as the Social Secretary of the 10th Senate’s Senators’ Wives Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
