Sen Murray-Bruce and I packaged Peter Obi as Atiku’s running mate in 2019 – Reno Omokri

2023 Election: HOW PETER OBI AND HIS OBEDIENTs supporters successfully disrupted Nigerian politics – Omokri admits

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has made a bold revelation about the political rise of Peter Obi, claiming he and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce played pivotal roles in Obi’s emergence as Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections.

Taking to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Omokri disclosed that Obi sent his CV to him unsolicited and persistently followed up via phone calls to push his case as a potential running mate to Atiku Abubakar under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Senator Ben Murray-Bruce and I were responsible for Atiku Abubakar picking Peter Obi as his running mate. We packaged Peter Obi,” Omokri wrote.

He further revealed that despite not personally liking Obi, he supported the move out of loyalty to former President Goodluck Jonathan, who had expressed a preference for the former Anambra State governor.

“The reason I was doing that is that I was instructed by former President Jonathan that this is the man he wants, and I’m a loyal person.”

Omokri detailed the behind-the-scenes events, stating:

“Atiku called me and said I should headhunt a vice presidential candidate for him. As he dropped the phone, the next person I called was President Jonathan. And President Jonathan told me it is Peter Obi. I said, ‘Sir, I don’t like Peter Obi.’”

According to Omokri, Obi was proactive in seeking the VP slot:

“This Peter Obi you see, sent me his CV and called to ask, ‘Reno, have you gotten the CV? Check. Refresh.’ He was sending me CV unsolicited.”

He warned that should Obi ever deny this version of events, he would not hesitate to “disgrace” him publicly.

Omokri’s post has since sparked heated conversations online, reigniting debates about the power play and decision-making process that led to Obi’s selection as Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election.
