Nollywood actress Debbie Shokoya has shared a deeply emotional story of betrayal by those she once called close friends.
Speaking during a candid conversation with Bimpe Akintunde on the Iriri Mi podcast, Debbie revealed that her so-called friends were behind the hurtful rumours that her husband used jazz (charms) to marry her. According to her, they even claimed she had been hypnotised.
“Those I called my people… the same ones who said I was hypnotised—were my friends. People I trusted. But today, I realise I have no one left. And you know what? I surrender,” she said.
Despite the betrayal, Debbie expressed peace and gratitude for her current reality, stating that she has found strength and fulfillment in her family.
“My husband is my best friend. My son, my family, and my husband’s family—they are all I need.”
Looking back, she believes the loss of those friendships was divinely orchestrated to prevent unnecessary setbacks in her life and marriage.
“God took those people out of my life for a reason. If they were still here, maybe my life wouldn’t have meaning. Maybe they would’ve caused setbacks… maybe they would’ve sent me packing from my marriage.”
Debbie noted that she has chosen to surrender to God’s will, placing her life entirely in His hands.
Her revelations come at a time when more celebrities are speaking out about disloyalty and betrayal within their inner circles, shining a light on the harsh realities of fame and trust.
