2027: Peter Obi submits his one-term proposal to coalition for consideration

‘Women not as corrupt as men’ – Peter Obi

The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, has revealed that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has formally submitted his one-term presidency proposal to the newly formed opposition coalition for consideration.

CREEBHILLS reports that Obi, speaking on Monday, expressed his willingness to serve only one term if elected president in 2027. According to him, this commitment aligns with the country’s unwritten power-sharing tradition and zoning principle.
Obi stated that any southern candidate who emerges victorious in the next presidential election should be ready to vacate office by May 28, 2031.

This proposal comes amid the emergence of a high-profile political coalition that includes Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai. The coalition has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 polls.

Speaking on behalf of the movement, Yunusa Tanko confirmed the submission of Obi’s one-term offer to the coalition.

“We have presented it to the coalition. It is there for them to make a decision. But we are confident it can work. This is a pronouncement rooted in integrity, and Peter Obi embodies that. What Nigeria needs now are leaders with integrity,” he said.

While acknowledging that a single-term presidency is not constitutionally required, Tanko emphasized that Obi believes four years is sufficient to implement meaningful reform.

“Although the single term is not enshrined in the constitution, Obi believes that four years is enough to implement his ideas,” he added.

Peter Obi’s bold proposal could be a game-changer in the political landscape, signaling a shift toward issue-based leadership and integrity-driven governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
