Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), labeling it a “non-starter” that lacks credibility and unity.
In a media chat on Thursday, Wike declared that only the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has the structure and strength to pose a real challenge to President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
“There is no coalition. The only party that can, if they put themselves well, challenge this Government is the PDP,” Wike asserted.
He accused former Senate President David Mark of trying to hijack the PDP leadership before defecting to chair the ADC-led coalition.
He also aimed at Dele Momodu, describing him as “politically irrelevant,” and at Atiku Abubakar for what he called a history of party-hopping driven by personal ambition.
On Nasir El-Rufai, the former Kaduna governor, Wike hinted that El-Rufai’s involvement in the coalition stemmed from rejection by President Tinubu.
Wike further challenged his critics to match his performance in office:
“If I leave as minister today, I can talk authoritatively and say what I did. Let any of them challenge me.”
Despite internal challenges, Wike maintained that only a united PDP can unseat the APC in the upcoming general election.
