Netflix Cancels Uzo Aduba’s White House Mystery Series Despite Critical Praise

Despite earning an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and generating strong buzz upon its March debut, Netflix has officially pulled the plug on its White House-set whodunit led by Uzo Aduba.

The high-concept series, featuring Aduba as eccentric detective Cordelia Cupp, stood out for its sharp writing and striking visuals—but its hefty production costs sealed its fate.

The show’s elaborate seven-stage White House replica proved too expensive to justify a second season, even with the potential of an anthology format and Aduba set to return for a new case. Budget negotiations reportedly broke down before a renewal could be finalized.

Fans and critics alike are mourning the loss of what many believed could have been another standout entry in the Shondaland legacy.

Meanwhile, other big-ticket series may face a similar fate. Medical drama Pulse and dark comedy No Good Deed are still in limbo, as Netflix continues tightening its slate amid cost-cutting efforts.
