Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has officially launched a new political movement called the America Party, vowing to disrupt what he calls the “one-party system” dominating U.S. politics. The surprise announcement, made on Saturday via X (formerly Twitter), marks Musk’s most direct foray into American political leadership to date.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk declared.
A Sharp Break From Trump
Musk’s formation of a new political party comes just months after a dramatic falling-out with former U.S. President Donald Trump. Once a key supporter and head of the now-defunct Department of Government Efficiency, Musk had been tasked with slashing federal spending and downsizing the public sector.
Their relationship soured when Trump pushed forward his controversial “One Big Beautiful Bill”, a sweeping domestic agenda that Musk labeled as “debt slavery.” The legislation is projected to add over $3.4 trillion to the national deficit over the next ten years, drawing fierce criticism from fiscal conservatives and independents.
“Republicans have abandoned all pretense of fiscal responsibility,” Musk said in a scathing post on X, accusing both parties of “colluding to bankrupt future generations.”
Independence Day Poll Fuels Momentum
On July 4th, Musk conducted a high-stakes poll on X, asking users whether they wanted “independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system.” The poll received over 1.2 million votes, with approximately two-thirds of respondents supporting the idea of a new political party.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party—and you shall have it!” Musk announced, promising a grassroots alternative to the entrenched Republican and Democratic establishments.
Trump Responds with Threats
The rift between Musk and Trump escalated further last month when Trump hinted at possible deportation, despite Musk having been a naturalized U.S. citizen since 2002. The former president also floated the idea of cutting off federal funding to Musk-owned companies, including SpaceX and Tesla.
“We’ll have to take a look,” Trump said when asked by reporters about Musk’s citizenship and government contracts.
What Is the America Party?
Details about the America Party’s platform remain limited, but insiders suggest that it will focus on:
-
Fiscal discipline
-
Government transparency
-
Term limits
-
Non-partisan innovation policies
-
Dismantling corporate-political collusion
What’s Next?
Elon Musk’s political ambitions are now under intense national scrutiny. With SpaceX, Tesla, X, and now a political party under his belt, critics and supporters alike wonder how far he’s willing to go.
Political analysts say the America Party could attract large swaths of disillusioned independent voters, younger Americans, and libertarian-minded conservatives unhappy with both major parties.
One thing is certain: with Elon Musk now in the political arena, the 2026 midterms and 2028 presidential elections could look very different from anything seen before in modern American history.
