The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (ICC) has generated over ₦700 million in revenue within just three weeks of its operation.
Wike disclosed that a Thanksgiving service was held at St. James’ Anglican Church, Asokoro, Abuja, to mark the successful completion of a project commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The facility, which was recently renovated under Wike’s leadership, has already surpassed past revenue figures under its previous management.
“The man who was running the ICC is from Adamawa and he was paying ₦50 million to the government every year. These are the people who want to rescue Nigeria,” Wike said, in a clear swipe at the previous administration of the centre.
According to him, the substandard state of the centre led President Tinubu to describe the facility as “an eyesore” when he visited.
“We shut the place down, and in just six to seven months, we completely rehabilitated the international conference centre,” Wike added.
₦50 Million vs ₦700 Million: A Stark Contrast
Wike expressed dismay over the paltry ₦50 million annual remittance by the former operator, emphasizing the significant leap in revenue performance under the current administration.
He noted that the Tinubu-led administration’s decision to overhaul the facility has already proven effective in both aesthetic and financial terms.
The conference centre was among several projects commissioned by President Tinubu over a 19-day commissioning tour of projects completed under Wike’s stewardship in the FCT.
