FG Alleges Plot to Overthrow Tinubu

Peter Obi Criticises Tinubu’s Benue Visit, Says It Lacked Compassion

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has raised concerns over an alleged plot by what he calls “haters of Nigeria’s progress” to overthrow the current administration.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Onanuga praised Tinubu’s leadership, describing it as “the most focused and transformative in Nigeria’s history.” He claimed that the reforms initiated by President Tinubu are already beginning to reshape the country despite facing stiff resistance from opposition figures.

Onanuga referenced a prophetic warning delivered by the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, in 2022, which cautioned Nigerians against expecting easy fixes from any government promising instant prosperity.

“Emir Sanusi warned Nigerians what to expect from President Tinubu’s reforms. ‘It’s not going to be easy.’
‘If anybody tells you it would be easy, don’t vote for him,’” Onanuga wrote.

He stressed that the Emir’s comments have validated the President’s ongoing economic and structural reforms.

“Just two years after Tinubu began implementing the reforms, the haters of Nigeria’s progress are banding together to overthrow an administration that has been the most focused, most transformative in our history,” he added.

Onanuga’s statement comes amid growing political activity, including the formation of an opposition coalition under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), aimed at unseating Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

While supporters of the president view his policies as long-term solutions to systemic issues, critics argue that the reforms have deepened hardship and widened inequality.

As Nigeria heads into another election cycle, the battle lines between the ruling party and emerging opposition forces are already being drawn.
