Award-winning Nollywood actress Bimbo Ademoye has shared a personal story of betrayal by a former close friend, tying it into the theme of her newly released film To Be A Friend, now streaming on YouTube via BimboAdemoyeTV.
In a heartfelt post shared Tuesday on Instagram, the 34-year-old actress opened up about how she once supported a friend who aspired to become an actor, providing her with clothes, shoes, and bags for events. However, things quickly turned sour.
“I wanted her to look like the superstar she wanted to become,” Bimbo wrote, noting that by that time, she had already starred in popular films like Sugar Rush, Looking for Baami, and Backup Wife and had earned two AMVCA nominations.
“She Copied My Dress at My Premiere”
The turning point came during the premiere of a film in which Bimbo played the lead. Despite helping the friend prepare for the event, Bimbo was shocked when the woman showed up wearing the exact same dress in a different color.
“I didn’t really mind,” she admitted. “But my sister warned me, saying, ‘She should let you have your moment.’”
From then on, Bimbo said the friend began trying to compete with her in appearance at events, using Bimbo’s resources to look more expensive and glamorous.
Abandoned During Illness, Then Trolled Online
The betrayal worsened when Bimbo fell ill and didn’t hear from the friend for months. After cutting ties, she discovered the ex-friend had created a fake Instagram page to troll her and even tried to pursue her boyfriend romantically.
“This daughter of Jezebel created a fake page and started trolling me… she even tried to link up with my man,” Bimbo wrote.
Though she didn’t reveal the ex-friend’s identity, the emotional story mirrors the themes of betrayal and toxic friendship explored in her film To Be A Friend.
To Be A Friend Breaks YouTube Records
The movie, written by Bimbo and starring Kunle Remi, Uzor Arukwe, and Deyemi Okanlawon, premiered on July 4, 2025, and amassed over 1 million views within 24 hours. Fans praised the story’s relatability, strong performances, and its “classic Nollywood” storytelling.
To encourage fan engagement, Bimbo offered ₦100,000 to anyone who could identify a particular scene featuring Kunle Remi in the suit she shared in her post.
