KANO, Nigeria – Renowned Kannywood actor Ali Nuhu has joined millions of Nigerians in mourning the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, offering a solemn prayer for the late leader.
The 51-year-old film star posted a tribute on Instagram on Sunday, sharing a photo of Buhari accompanied by the message: “Allah ya jikan ka da rahama Baba” — a Hausa phrase meaning “May Allah have mercy on you and grant you forgiveness, Baba.”
Nuhu’s message came shortly after the news broke that the former president died in London at the age of 82, following a prolonged illness.
According to a statement from the presidency, President Bola Tinubu has ordered that Buhari’s remains be flown back to Nigeria for burial in Daura, Katsina State, by Islamic rites.
Born on December 17, 1942, Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, and later returned as a civilian president from 2015 to 2023.
His legacy includes a focus on anti-corruption, infrastructure expansion, and agricultural reforms. However, his administration was also criticised for its handling of insecurity, economic challenges, and human rights issues, particularly during the #EndSARS movement.
Ali Nuhu, widely regarded as a pillar of the Hausa-language film industry, reflected the sentiment of many in Northern Nigeria, where Buhari remained a deeply respected figure.
