The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has dismissed widespread social media rumours claiming that its Managing Director, Ali Nuhu, is dead.
Speculation began after a Facebook user, Ifeoma Chigbo, shared a video suggesting the veteran actor and filmmaker had passed away, while another post alleged he died in a car crash.
In a statement released on Monday evening, the NFC’s Director of Public Affairs, Brian Etuk, described the reports as “false and malicious”, confirming that Nuhu is “alive, well, and fully carrying out his responsibilities.”
“The attention of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has been drawn to the purported passing of Dr. Ali Nuhu, its current Managing Director/Chief Executive, being orchestrated within the social media space; and wishes to officially and unambiguously inform the general public that the reports, including videos laced with the pictures of Dr. Ali Nuhu, are not only malicious and injurious but false in their entirety,” the statement read.
Etuk emphasized that Ali Nuhu, who was appointed as NFC boss by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 12, 2024, is actively performing his duties.
The NFC further cautioned those behind the fake news, warning of “dire and unmistakable consequences” for their actions.
“Appropriate measures have been initiated to arrest this ugly, baleful, and unsatisfactory conduct and trend,” the statement added, while also appreciating the genuine concern shown by the public and stakeholders.
Ali Nuhu, often celebrated as the “King of Kannywood”, remains one of Nigeria’s most respected actors and filmmakers, with a career spanning over two decades.
