Farooq Oreagba Pays Tribute to Late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona

Farooq Oreagba, Managing Director and CEO of NG Clearing Limited, has joined the chorus of tributes pouring in following the death of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 91.

In an emotional Instagram post on Monday, Oreagba wrote:

“RIP Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Dr S. K. Adetona GCON. May Kabiyesi’s soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”

Oba Adetona’s passing comes just hours after the death of his longtime friend and former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, was also confirmed. The two elder statesmen shared a close bond spanning decades, united by their deep influence on Nigerian governance and cultural life.

Born on May 10, 1934, Oba Adetona ascended the throne on April 2, 1960, and reigned for an unprecedented 64 years, earning widespread respect as one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning and most revered traditional rulers.

Throughout his reign, he remained a steadfast custodian of Yoruba customs and identity. He is particularly celebrated for his enduring promotion of the Ojude Oba festival — the vibrant annual cultural event in Ijebu Ode that attracts national and international attention.
