May Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has lost the legal support of the DPA Family Law Clinic. This prominent legal advocacy group had been representing her in her ongoing marital battle.
In a strongly worded statement released via Facebook on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the law firm announced its complete withdrawal from May’s legal team, citing what it described as a “hostile and unsafe environment” created by some of her most vocal online supporters, particularly within a faction known as “May Nation.”
“DPA’s services to Queen May have come to an end. The hostile environment fostered by certain individuals within the ‘May Nation’ group has made it untenable for us to continue effective representation,” the group stated.
Toxicity from Supporters Prompted Exit
According to DPA, its decision was not based on May’s personal conduct but stemmed from daily harassment and online trolling endured by its staff, not only from Yul Edochie’s supporters but also from May’s fanbase.
“Ethically, pursuing justice for Queen May becomes profoundly difficult when her own supporters exhibit comparable, if not greater, hostility than those we were legally opposing,” the group added.
The legal clinic accused May of failing to rein in her supporters, noting that the unchecked online aggression compromised staff morale and safety, making continued legal efforts “operationally and ethically untenable.”
Still Supports May’s Right to Justice
Despite its withdrawal, the DPA reaffirmed its belief that May Edochie is a victim of marital betrayal and abuse, placing full responsibility for the marital breakdown on Yul Edochie and his second wife, Judy Austin.
“Let there be no misunderstanding: the conflict rests squarely on Yul, aided significantly by Judy. Queen May was a victim of marital abuse and betrayal. She deserves justice and societal protection,” the firm wrote.
May Edochie Yet to Respond
As of the time of filing this report, May Edochie has not issued an official response to the legal team’s withdrawal.
DPA noted that it is willing to facilitate a smooth legal transition, promising to cooperate with any new legal team she appoints.
“We will work cooperatively with Queen May’s team to transition our work to any successor representatives. We wish her victory. She is a remarkable individual.”
The group also revealed its intent to pursue legal action against a certain individual alleged to be leading the online attacks, operating under the alias “Judy Obasiyul Autism.”
Background
May and Yul Edochie’s marital troubles became public in April 2022, when Yul confirmed his marriage to actress Judy Austin and the birth of their child. May, who claimed to have been unaware of the relationship, publicly denounced polygamy and refused to be “numbered as a wife.”
Since then, May has built a massive online following and gained significant public sympathy, with many fans championing her as a symbol of dignity and strength in adversity.
