Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has come out strongly against those mocking the late former President Muhammadu Buhari following his reported death.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Fani-Kayode condemned what he described as “disrespectful and despicable” remarks being made by some Nigerians on social media, warning that only God has the right to judge the dead.
“The sordid and disrespectful things that a malevolent horde of miscreants and malodorous street urchins are posting in the media about the passing of @MBuhari makes the stomach turn,” he wrote.
“Whether you loved or hated him… to make mockery of him in death is unacceptable.”
Fani-Kayode went on to say that Buhari’s legacy remains untarnished, despite criticism and trolling online. He compared the late president to biblical King Saul, whom David still honored in death, despite their differences.
“He has run his course, he has fought a good fight, he has established a great legacy, he is loved by millions and he has gone to meet his maker.”
He further urged those rejoicing over Buhari’s passing to reflect on their own lives, warning that death comes for all, and cautioning them against spreading hate.
“Those trolling his memory today will die and be buried like stray dogs with few to remember or mourn them. Their hate will lead them to destruction and send them to hell.”
Background
Though unconfirmed by official government sources, the news of Muhammadu Buhari’s death has sparked intense debate online, with mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some have offered condolences, others have used the opportunity to revisit grievances over his leadership.
Fani-Kayode, known for his outspoken nature, has now called for respect and restraint, stating that mocking the dead is a violation of decency and humanity.
