In a major summer statement, Liverpool have officially signed French striker Hugo Ekitiké from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth up to £79 million (€91 million), including performance-related add-ons — making him one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history.
The 23-year-old forward has penned a six-year contract with the Premier League champions following a standout 2024/25 campaign, where he netted 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances, earning a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.
Liverpool secured Ekitiké’s signature ahead of intense competition from Manchester United and Newcastle United. Sources suggest the striker was convinced by a direct Zoom call with head coach Arne Slot, who laid out a clear tactical vision and the role Ekitiké would play in his system. Barcelona were also monitoring the player, but Liverpool acted quickly to seal the transfer.
Ekitiké has already passed his medical and joined training with his new teammates. He is expected to be part of the squad traveling to Asia for pre-season, with a potential debut on the cards against AC Milan in Hong Kong.
This signing is part of Liverpool’s ongoing aggressive summer rebuild, which includes marquee arrivals like Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez — pushing their total transfer outlay to nearly £300 million.
Known for his blistering pace, creativity, and ability to operate across the forward line, Ekitiké is seen as a long-term successor to Roberto Firmino. He will wear the No. 19 shirt at Anfield.
Liverpool fans are eager to see how the young Frenchman adapts to Arne Slot’s high-tempo attacking philosophy as the Reds aim to defend their Premier League crown and mount a serious challenge in Europe.
