Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has sparked an online conversation after stating that Igbo men are not naturally inclined toward politics, citing their inability to tolerate the treachery often associated with the profession.
In a recent interview with Afia TV, the legendary actor shared his views on why Igbo politicians often face challenges in sustaining long-term political alliances.
“An Igbo man is not a good politician. And I will tell you why — people who are used to politics, or the treachery that characterises politics, can overlook a lot of things,” he explained.
“The Igbo Man Will Cut You Off”
Edochie said that once an Igbo politician feels betrayed, it is difficult for them to continue any form of relationship with the person or party involved.
“The Igbo man is not constituted to condone treachery a second time. If you hurt him once in politics, he will never give you an opportunity to hurt him again. He will recoil,” he said.
“That’s the average Igbo man. The moment you exhibit treachery in your involvement with an Igbo man, they cut you off. That’s it.”
A Thought-Provoking Take
Edochie’s remarks have ignited discussion on social media, with many agreeing that tribal identity and cultural values often play a significant role in political dynamics across Nigeria.
The actor, known for his commanding presence in classic Nollywood films, has long been respected for his outspoken views on societal and cultural issues.
His comments come at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with issues of ethnic representation and trust in governance, especially ahead of future elections.
