Nnamdi Kanu Sues Reno Omokri for ₦60 Billion Over Defamation

Biafra: Protests rock Abia over Nnamdi Kanu’s detention

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has initiated what his Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, described as a “muscular legal action” against Reno Omokri, a prominent supporter of President Bola Tinubu.

Nnamdi Kanu filed the suit at the Enugu High Court, accusing Omokri of publishing defamatory statements against him and IPOB. He is demanding a whopping ₦60 billion in damages.

Reliefs Sought

According to the writ of summons, Kanu is seeking:

  • ₦50 billion in general damages for defamation, emotional distress, and reputational harm.
  • ₦10 billion in aggravated damages for the alleged malicious publication.
  • A public retraction of the statements in two national newspapers and on Omokri’s Twitter/X account.
  • A public apology to be issued in the same manner.
  • A perpetual injunction restraining Omokri from further defamatory statements about Kanu or IPOB.
  • Costs of litigation including legal fees.
  • 10% interest per annum on all monetary awards from the date of judgment until full payment.

Ejimakor confirmed the development via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“Yesterday, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu commenced a muscular legal action against RENO OMOKRI (@renoomokri), seeking a retraction, apology & damages for Omokri’s highly defamatory & prejudicial publications against Mazi Kanu, IPOB & #Ndigbo. Others like Omokri should take note & be guided.”

As of now, Reno Omokri has not issued a formal response to the lawsuit.
