Jeffrey Epstein Investigation: House Committee Subpoenas Bill and Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton

The U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has issued subpoenas to former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and a list of top former Justice Department officials as part of its ongoing investigation into the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) announced on Monday that the subpoenas aim to compel testimony “related to horrific crimes perpetrated by Jeffrey Epstein,” and to examine the extent of relationships between public officials and the disgraced financier.

Subpoenaed former officials include:

  • Former Attorneys General Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, William Barr, Merrick Garland, Jeff Sessions, and Alberto Gonzales

  • Former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller

In addition, the committee has subpoenaed the Department of Justice (DOJ) for full, unredacted records related to the Epstein case. The DOJ has been ordered to produce the so-called “Epstein Files” no later than August 19, 2025.

Focus on the Clintons

Chairman Comer’s letter to former President Clinton references multiple documented flights he took aboard Epstein’s private jet in 2002 and 2003. While Clinton has denied ever visiting Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands — a location alleged to be central to some of the sexual abuse — Comer said “conflicting reports” warrant further inquiry.

“By your own admission, you flew on Jeffrey Epstein’s private plane four separate times in 2002 and 2003,” Comer wrote.
“You were also allegedly close to Ms. Ghislaine Maxwell… and attended an intimate dinner with her in 2014, three years after public reports about her involvement in Mr. Epstein’s abuse of minors.”

Ghislaine Maxwell, a longtime Epstein associate, is currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence for her role in procuring and grooming underage girls for abuse.

Background and Political Fallout

Epstein, who had ties to several high-profile individuals including politicians, royals, and business magnates, died in a federal jail in 2019 in what was ruled a suicide. He was awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking of minors at the time.

Last month, the DOJ announced it would not pursue additional charges against others in the Epstein network — a move that triggered backlash from lawmakers, victims’ advocates, and the public.

Comer’s committee is now intensifying pressure on the DOJ, citing a need for transparency and accountability. The House investigation seeks to clarify how Epstein was able to evade justice for so long and what role, if any, powerful individuals may have played in shielding him.

Clinton Responds

In a prior statement released in 2019, Clinton spokesperson Angel Urena denied any knowledge of Epstein’s crimes:

“President Clinton knows nothing about the terrible crimes Jeffrey Epstein pleaded guilty to. He took four trips on Epstein’s airplane in 2002 and 2003 for Clinton Foundation work, accompanied by staff and Secret Service agents. He hasn’t spoken to Epstein in well over a decade.”

The former president has denied ever visiting Epstein’s island, despite conspiracy theories, including unverified claims by former President Donald Trump, alleging otherwise.

What’s Next

Bill Clinton is expected to appear for a deposition on October 14, 2025, according to the subpoena. Other individuals are also expected to testify before the committee later in the year.

The committee’s inquiry is likely to reignite public interest in the Epstein scandal, with political implications for both parties and renewed scrutiny on the federal justice system’s handling of the case.
