Former U.S. President Donald Trump has taken a public swipe at Gayle King, co-host of CBS Mornings, amid unconfirmed reports that her future with the network may be in jeopardy.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump suggested King’s career was “over,” claiming she lacked the courage to support him and criticizing her performance on her morning show.
“Gayle King’s career is over. She should have stayed with her belief in TRUMP. She never had the courage to do so. No talent, no ratings, no strength!!!” Trump wrote.
The post was accompanied by a report alleging CBS is considering not renewing King’s multimillion-dollar contract, which is set to expire in May 2026. The report claims internal concerns over falling ratings and that King’s diversity and inclusion efforts may be alienating portions of the viewership.
Industry Shifts and DEI Scrutiny
Trump’s criticism comes at a time when many media organizations, including CBS, are re-evaluating their DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives, especially in light of corporate restructurings, political pressure, and audience shifts.
Though CBS has not made any public statement regarding King’s status, the CBS Mornings anchor has long been a central figure in the network’s daytime programming and has interviewed prominent figures including Oprah Winfrey, Barack Obama, and R. Kelly.
As speculation grows, industry watchers are keen to see whether broader changes in the media landscape — including mergers, cost-cutting, and ideological backlash — will impact King’s role, or whether she will remain a pillar of CBS’s morning lineup.
