WAEC Temporarily Shuts Down Result Checker Portal Amid Technical Issues, Poor 2025 WASSCE Performance

WAEC To Hold Between August And September Says Education Minister

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily disabled its online result checker portal due to technical issues, just days after releasing the 2025 May/June WASSCE results.

In a brief statement released on Wednesday evening, WAEC assured candidates that its technical team is working to restore access within 24 hours, urging the public to remain patient.

The outage comes amid growing frustration over the poor performance recorded in the 2025 exam cycle. Of the 1,456,727 candidates who sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) across Nigeria, only 553,481 (38%) obtained credit passes in five subjects, including English and Mathematics — a sharp decline from the 61% pass rate in 2024.

WAEC also revealed that:

  • 1,413,314 results were fully processed and released.

  • 43,413 results are being withheld pending investigations into suspected malpractice or errors in submission.

This year’s outcome is already being described by educators and stakeholders as one of the worst WASSCE results in recent history, raising concerns about the quality of secondary education and the effectiveness of exam preparation strategies in Nigeria.

WAEC has promised to update the public once the result checker portal is fully restored.
