Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has issued a passionate statement addressing recent speculation surrounding his injury, surgery, and alleged links to the club’s player registration issues, insisting that some claims made about him are “entirely unfounded.”
In a lengthy Instagram post, the German shot-stopper admitted that the past few months have been “particularly difficult” both physically and personally.
He explained that his decision to undergo surgery was made in full consultation with medical experts and approved by FC Barcelona, with his long-term health and career as the top priority.
“Like any player, after suffering an injury, my sole priority has always been to return to the pitch as soon as possible, motivated only by the desire to help the team and do what I love most: compete,” Ter Stegen wrote.
The 32-year-old clarified that all of the club’s signings and contract renewals were completed before his surgery and stressed that it was “unfair and inaccurate” to suggest his absence was linked to freeing up registration space for other players.
“At no point could I consider that my unfortunate circumstances with the new surgery I had to undergo would be necessary for the registration of other colleagues whom I greatly respect,” he stated.
Ter Stegen reaffirmed his loyalty to Barcelona, the city, and its fans, highlighting his commitment to professionalism and respect throughout his career. He expressed his willingness to work with the club’s management to resolve the situation and provide any necessary authorizations.
