Nigerian megastar Burna Boy has made history once again, becoming the first African artist to secure a Billboard Hot 100 entry for five consecutive years.
The Afrofusion pioneer achieved the record through his feature on Gunna’s new album, The Last Wun. Their collaboration, wgft, debuted at No. 94 on the Hot 100, further cementing Burna Boy’s global dominance.
This marks Burna Boy’s seventh career entry on the Billboard Hot 100 — the highest ever by an African artist. He now stands ahead of fellow Nigerian superstars Wizkid and Tems, who currently boast five entries each.
Unlike many digital-era artists who struggle to translate streaming numbers into real-world success, Burna Boy has consistently paired chart performance with record-breaking concerts across the globe.
In July 2023, he became the first African to headline a U.S. stadium, selling out New York’s Citi Field. On March 7, 2024, he set another record at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., with the highest-grossing concert by an African artist in U.S. history — surpassing his previous milestone at TD Garden in Boston.
Beyond the charts and tours, Burna Boy has also claimed some of the world’s most prestigious accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Global Album and three consecutive BET Awards for Best International Act.
With seven Billboard Hot 100 entries, sold-out stadiums, and a growing collection of global awards, Burna Boy continues to reinforce his status as Africa’s biggest crossover act and one of contemporary music’s most influential voices.
