Cardi B’s courtroom debut is already making headlines as her long-brewing civil trial officially began on Monday, August 26, in Los Angeles.
The Grammy-winning rapper is being sued by her former security guard, Emani Ellis, who alleges that Cardi verbally and physically assaulted her during a heated confrontation in 2018.
Ellis told the court that the clash took place at a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office, where Cardi — then four months pregnant with daughter Kulture — allegedly suspected her of leaking details of her private medical visit.
According to Ellis, the WAP hitmaker insulted her weight and job, then went on to spit on her, scratch her face with one of her long nails, and even attempted to take a swing at her.
She also claimed that she lost her job following the incident, though she admitted her termination was officially linked to a HIPAA violation rather than Cardi’s alleged threats.
The trial, which has been years in the making, is expected to draw significant attention as both sides present their arguments in what could be one of Cardi’s most high-profile legal battles.
