South African actress and club DJ, Thuli Phongolo, popularly known as Thuli P, has sparked a wave of reactions online after issuing a fiery message to wealthy men who prioritise luxury fashion over basic personal hygiene and health.
On Wednesday, 27 August 2025, the actress took to her Instagram stories to voice her frustration, revealing she has even considered starting a business or page dedicated to offering step-by-step hygiene tips, especially for men.
“I want to start a business/page where I give step-to-step personal hygiene tips! Especially for men,” Thuli wrote. “I just don’t get it. Why would a person have so much access, information, social media, Google, family, friends etc., and still lack personal hygiene or the desire to fix things that could contribute to your wellbeing and confidence?”
The actress criticised the trend of men dressing in luxury brands while neglecting their health, calling it both unhealthy and unattractive.
“Imagine being dripped in designer head-to-toe but you suffer from halitosis. PLEASE MAN, FOR YOURSELF! ADOPT A PERSONAL HYGIENE ROUTINE,” she stated. “Have doctors that can advise accordingly… work on your mental health… go to the gym or exercise at home. The big bellies aren’t healthy – it’s not a look, it’s a health concern. Fix your teeth, eat well, read, be neat.”
Emphasising that money should never replace self-care, Thuli P made it clear that many women are unhappy with men who ignore their hygiene.
“Having money does not substitute thee above. GENTLEMEN PLEASE, most of you are slacking! The ladies sent me to tell you that we are suffering and you speak so close to our faces.”
Her bold comments have since stirred debate on social media, with many agreeing that wealth is no excuse for poor hygiene and lack of self-respect.
