Dangote Group has responded to reality TV star Phyna Otabor regarding the medical treatment of her younger sister, Ruth, who was severely injured in an accident involving one of the company’s cement trucks.
Phyna, the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, shared the company’s latest message on her Instagram story on Friday.
The response from Dangote Group read:
“Good morning Phyna. We received the medical reports you sent. We are happy your family are also liaising with the medical team handling Ruth. Please note that we are ready to positively consider all options necessary for treatment of Ruth as soon as she is certified fit to travel.”
The development comes just days after Phyna publicly accused the company of reneging on an alleged promise to fly her sister abroad for further medical treatment.
She had earlier disclosed that officials from Dangote Group suggested Ruth be transferred to Lagoon Hospital in Lagos before arrangements would be made for her to receive treatment in India.
However, she claimed the company later demanded a medical report to confirm whether Lagoon Hospital could not handle the case and if her sister was fit for a long-distance journey.
Phyna alleged that communication with the company stalled afterward, accusing its representatives of trying to “outsmart” her family.
Her sister Ruth, who has been on life support at Lagoon Hospital, sustained life-threatening injuries, including a right above-the-knee amputation, severe chest, pelvic, and lower trunk damage, crushed reproductive organs, a burst bladder, fluid in the lungs, colostomy, tracheostomy, external fixation of the left lower limb, and multiple transfusions.
The 21-year-old was involved in the accident on Wednesday, August 21, in Auchi, Edo State, when a Dangote Cement truck ran over her leg.
Dangote Group had earlier announced that its senior officials and insurance team immediately visited the accident scene, engaged law enforcement agencies, and followed up with visits to Ruth and her family at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
The company also reassured that it remains committed to providing medical care and compensation in line with its welfare policy.
