Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has shared the emotional story behind her tattoo, revealing that it was born out of the pain of heartbreak.
The Afrobeats queen disclosed that she flew in a tattoo artist from Los Angeles to Lagos, choosing the comfort and privacy of her home over a public tattoo parlour.
“The session was intense. My tattoo artist walked in and was like, ‘What are you doing? Is that going to come off?’ As he started tattooing, there was blood everywhere, and he was concerned for me,” Tiwa recalled.
Explaining the decision, she revealed that the tattoo was her way of coping with deep emotional pain.
“I did that [the tattoo] from the pain I felt from a heartbreak. I just wanted to do something to scream,” she said.
Reflecting on her journey over the past two years, Tiwa admitted it was a difficult time but expressed gratitude for leaving a toxic relationship behind.
“Last two years was a very hard time. The relationship I experienced was crazy. I’m so happy I’m out of that relationship,” she added.
Today, the singer says the tattoo serves as a reminder of her resilience and her ability to transform pain into strength.
