The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has revealed why he was unable to attend the University of Ibadan despite seeking higher education there in 1966.
According to Ladoja, his ambition at the time was to study technology, but the Faculty of Technology had not yet been established at the institution. As a result, he had to look elsewhere for his academic pursuit.
The former governor of Oyo State shared these details when the principal officers of the University of Ibadan, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Kayode Adebowale, paid him a courtesy visit on Tuesday.
Addressing the delegation, Ladoja commended the university for maintaining its reputation as the best in the country despite the proliferation of higher institutions. He described the institution as the pride of academia and a source of honour for the people of Ibadan.
He further urged the university to leverage the strengths of other research institutes in the city to fulfill its mandate and contribute more effectively to the development of Ibadan.
In response, Professor Adebowale acknowledged the support and generosity of the Ibadan people, noting that the university’s history is deeply tied to the city’s hospitality. He also assured that the institution would continue to collaborate with the community across various areas of human endeavor.
