Jay-Z’s Roc Nation and development partners are pressing ahead with plans to open a casino in the heart of New York City’s Times Square.
The rap mogul first floated the idea of entering the casino business a few years ago and has now doubled down on his vision to build Caesars Palace Times Square — a project he says will celebrate culture and uplift communities.
“New York City is the entertainment capital of the world, so the idea of a world-class casino here makes perfect sense,” Jay-Z told City & State New York. “I’ve always looked at opportunities that can shift culture while uplifting communities, and Caesars Palace Times Square is exactly that.”
He described Times Square as the perfect spot, calling it “the heartbeat of New York” and a place already brimming with unmatched energy through Broadway shows, New Year’s celebrations, and millions of annual visitors.
While critics worry about the impact of a casino on vulnerable Black and working-class communities historically affected by gambling, Jay-Z insists the project will do more good than harm.
“Our vision is to build a destination that draws even more people into the neighbourhood, generating new energy, new business, and new opportunities for everyone,” he said, emphasising the project’s commitment to responsible gaming and community uplift.
