Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has revealed that Victor Osimhen is still struggling with pain from the injury he sustained while on international duty with Nigeria, but is expected to return to action soon.
The 26-year-old Super Eagles striker picked up the knock last week and immediately returned to Turkey for treatment. Galatasaray confirmed his situation in an official club statement.
Osimhen missed the Yellow-Reds’ 2-0 win over Eyupspor on Saturday, but Buruk remains confident he could recover in time for their crucial UEFA Champions League group stage opener.
“Osimhen’s condition will be determined within a few days. We’re hopeful he’ll play. We think he will, but of course, he’s in pain,” Buruk told the club’s media.
Galatasaray travel to Germany to face Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, and Buruk will be eager to have his marquee summer signing available.
Osimhen, who sealed a high-profile move from Napoli to the Turkish champions this summer, is regarded as central to their domestic and European ambitions. The Nigerian forward played a pivotal role in Napoli’s historic Serie A title triumph in 2023, their first in 33 years, and was later crowned African Footballer of the Year.
His fitness will continue to be assessed in the coming days, with Nigerian fans also closely watching his recovery ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers next month.
