Former Super Falcons captain Onome Ebi has officially announced her retirement from professional football after a career spanning over two decades.
The 43-year-old defender shared the news on her X handle on Wednesday night, reflecting on her journey filled with “challenges, victories, and lessons.”
“Though I hang up my boots, my purpose in the game continues—to give back, to guide, and to be a voice for players across Africa and beyond. Thank you,” she wrote.
Onome Ebi, who began her career with Omidiran Babes in 2001 before stints with Bayelsa Queens and Swedish side Piteå, is the Super Falcons’ most capped player with 109 appearances.
She won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations four times (2010, 2014, 2016, 2018) and made history as the only African footballer to feature in six FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments.
