Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has stirred debate after suggesting that Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, has the capacity to contest for political office — even against his father in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on The Clarity Zone podcast, Bwala argued that being the president’s son should not limit Seyi’s political ambitions. He praised Seyi for what he described as resilience, humility, and a scandal-free public image.
“If Seyi Tinubu’s father is the president, what stops him from running for Lagos State governor? Seyi Tinubu can even challenge his father in the next election,” Bwala said.
“At a point, he was even criticised for the people he brought into government, who were mostly Obidients. That tells you he doesn’t have biases. You will never see him attacking people on social media, even though his father is one of the most vilified in recent memory. He has built relationships even with critics of this government.”

Bwala also cautioned against judging individuals solely through public opinion. “Until you experience somebody, don’t have an opinion of them. Too many people inherit other people’s problems without any personal encounter,” he added.
Seyi Tinubu, 38, is a lawyer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is a co-founder of Loatsad Promomedia, an outdoor advertising company, and has been increasingly visible in political and social circles since his father assumed office in May 2023. Supporters often point to his calm demeanor and networking skills, while critics raise concerns about the role of political dynasties in Nigeria’s democracy.
Bwala’s remarks come amid growing speculation about the 2027 elections, with President Tinubu expected to seek a second term. His comments may fuel conversations about whether Seyi Tinubu could carve out his own political path or remain behind the scenes as a supporter of his father’s administration.
