Financial educator Kalu Aja has waded into the brewing crisis between Dangote Petroleum Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) following the dismissal of Nigerian workers at the facility.
In a post shared on Friday, Aja argued that the refinery should not allow PENGASSAN to unionize its operations, warning that it would eventually become like the state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) if unions were given access.
“PENGASSAN should go and build their own refinery, then unionize it. The day unions enter that Dangote Refinery, it becomes NNPC,” he wrote on X.
His remarks come after the refinery reportedly terminated the employment of all its Nigerian staff less than 24 hours after 90 percent of them joined PENGASSAN.
While the company described the move as part of a “total re-organisation” citing reported sabotage and safety concerns, PENGASSAN President Festus Osifo confirmed the mass sack and vowed the association would compel Dangote Refinery to reverse its decision.
