Comedian Bovi Ugboma has finally addressed long-standing speculations about his relationship with fellow comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth. Contrary to rumors of a rift, Bovi insists there is no bad blood between them—only a natural shift in interests and career focus.
In a recent interview, the entertainer explained that while they once collaborated closely, he has since chosen to focus on his family and expand into filmmaking and television.
“We are cool. Nothing happened (between us). Interests changed, especially for me. I wanted to focus, spend more time with family. I wanted to also elevate myself,” Bovi said.
He added that his creative restlessness often pushes him to explore new territories: “I easily get bored with things. When I am doing something for too long, I try to do something else. As you know, I started to do film. I went back to TV. I wanted to build my own brand.”
Explaining why he leaned more toward independence, the comedian pointed out: “I needed the world to know that I can stand with the mic endlessly and talk. I also started to think that when I blow the whistle and host shows at Eko Hotels, it fills up, why should I go and share money? Why should we be many and do one show?”
This echoes remarks he made back in 2023, when he admitted the closeness between him and Basketmouth reduced because he wanted to focus more on his personal growth.
Despite the reduced collaborations, Bovi stressed again that there is no animosity: “We are cool.”
