Nollywood actress Habibat Jinad has opened up about a painful experience involving her colleague, Lateef Adedimeji, alleging that the actor once turned down a role in her movie because he only wanted to work with “fortunate people.”
Habibat made the shocking revelation in a video shared on Instagram, where she recounted their past friendship and expressed disappointment over how fame, in her opinion, has changed the actor.
“There was a time I wanted to shoot a movie and I told Lateef Adedimeji that he would be part of it,” she said. “He told me point-blank that he only wants to feature in movies with fortunate people. I was like, who are those who are not fortunate? I was pained at first by his statement, but I moved on.”
The actress further claimed that Lateef blocked her on social media for about four years and only unblocked her in January 2025, though she still doesn’t understand why.
“He blocked me for like four years and only unblocked me in January 2025,” she explained. “I never understood what led to such action.”
Habibat clarified that her intention in speaking out wasn’t to create controversy but to shed light on how fame and success can alter relationships in the Nigerian movie industry.
“I decided to speak out now, not to cause any drama, but to show how some of my colleagues change once fame comes their way,” she added.
Lateef Adedimeji, on his part, remains one of Nollywood’s most respected Yoruba actors, known for his emotional roles and captivating performances in hit films such as Ayinla, Lisabi, and Jagun Jagun.
As of the time of this report, the actor has not responded to Habibat Jinad’s allegations.
