Werder Bremen head coach, Horst Steffen, has expressed disappointment with Nigerian striker Victor Boniface’sperformance in the club’s 1–1 Bundesliga draw against Mainz on Saturday.
Speaking after the match at the Mewa Arena, Steffen said the striker failed to make an impact in attack, noting that the forward did not register a single shot on target, goal, or assist throughout the encounter.
The coach, while acknowledging Boniface’s effort, made it clear he expected more from the 23-year-old.
“He [Boniface] tried to hold onto the ball up front,” Steffen told Bild after the match.
“Today I thought to myself: Come on, he can do even better.”
His quiet outing added to Bremen’s frustration as they dropped more points in their league campaign.
The Super Eagles striker will now look to redeem himself when Werder Bremen face Wolfsburg in their next Bundesliga fixture on Friday.
