WCQ playoffs: ‘I saw the person pointing laser light at me’ – Osimhen

Osimhen

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has confirmed that he saw the individual who pointed a laser light at him during Nigeria’s emphatic 4–1 victory over Gabon in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying semi-final playoff on Thursday.

Osimhen delivered a standout performance in Morocco, scoring two goals, while Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke added one each to seal Nigeria’s dominant win.

However, controversy arose after Nigeria’s third goal, when cameras captured a laser beam directed at Osimhen’s face.

Speaking to ESPN UK after the match, the Galatasaray forward revealed he spotted the culprit:

“I actually saw the person pointing the laser at me; the person was in the stands,” Osimhen said.

He added that such tactics were clearly aimed at disrupting Nigeria’s momentum:

“They know the kind of quality we possess. They are trying to use the laser to distract us. I just keep it moving, I don’t even think about it.”

Despite the attempted distraction, he remained composed and continued to lead from the front, helping Nigeria move one step closer to World Cup qualification.
