Grammy-winning singer Lizzo has clapped back at fat-shamers after a viral online joke targeted her body in 2025.
The singer took to Instagram, sharing a photo of herself relaxing in a yellow-and-black snakeskin bikini, alongside a strong message to critics.
“Today I saw a fat joke about me — in 2025 — and it was viral,” she wrote.
“They were just laughing at me because I’m fat. Let me remind everyone: never let anyone shame you for what you choose to do with your body. When you’re big they talk, when you’re small they talk. Your body will never be good enough for them because it’s not for them — it’s for you.”
Lizzo, who has long battled body-shaming throughout her career, also addressed past discussions about her weight loss journey. She previously revealed on the Just Trish podcast that she tried Ozempic but eventually focused on diet changes instead.
In her latest post, she doubled down on her message of autonomy:
“If I get a BBL, mind your business. If I lose 100lbs, mind your business. If I gain every pound back… mind your fking business.”**
She ended with her signature humour:
“Anyways, my fat ass stays living with a paid-off mortgage in y’all bches’ heads.”**
Her response comes shortly after she made headlines for a Substack essay titled Cancel Me (Again), in which she encouraged people to embrace being “cancelled.” Following backlash over the piece, Lizzo said she stands by her right to express herself.
“I deserve to express myself like everyone else. I’m human. I’ve earned the right to be wrong, to be prickly and unlikable sometimes. It’s liberating for a recovering chronic people-pleaser like me.”
