U.S. President Donald Trump has been announced as the first-ever recipient of the newly created FIFA Peace Prizeduring the official draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup held at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the award on Friday, stating that Trump was selected “in recognition of his exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world.”
“This is your prize, this is your peace prize,” Infantino said as he handed Trump the trophy, medal, and certificate. “There is also a beautiful medal for you that you can wear everywhere you want to go.”
According to FIFA, the Peace Prize is meant to honour “individuals who help unite people in peace through unwavering commitment and special actions.” The organization has not disclosed details about the selection process, although reports indicate that a newly formed “social responsibility” committee—reportedly chaired by Myanmar businessman Zaw Zaw—will establish future guidelines for the award.

Accepting the honour, Trump described it as “one of the great honours of my life.” He went on to claim credit for preventing several major global conflicts, saying: “We saved millions and millions of lives. The Congo is an example—over 10 million people killed and it was heading for another 10 million. India and Pakistan, so many different wars we were able to end, in some cases just before they started.”
The U.S. President also praised Infantino for record-breaking ticket sales ahead of the 2026 World Cup, adding that the tournament would be “an event the likes of which maybe the world has never seen.”

Trump concluded his remarks by declaring: “The world is a safer place now … we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world.”
