“Why would you think I hate you? ” – Davido Opens Up on How He Linked Up With Omah Lay for ‘With You’

Davido, Omah Lay

World-famous Nigerian singer Davido has revealed how he collaborated with fellow artiste Omah Lay, disclosing that their partnership began after Omah Lay publicly expressed doubts about Davido’s feelings toward him.

Recall that in 2024, Omah Lay admitted that he once believed Davido “hated” him until the DMW boss played his songs during a popular livestream with American streamer Kai Cenat in Lagos.

In a recent interview, Davido explained that the moment prompted him to reach out to Omah Lay directly, which eventually led to their musical collaboration.

“How Omah Lay and I got together was, Kai Cenat came to Nigeria and I was driving him to the club, and then Omah Lay’s song came on,” Davido said. “Kai was like, ‘Who is this?’ and I said, ‘Oh, this is Omah Lay, he is hot.’”

According to Davido, Omah Lay later reacted on social media, expressing surprise at the shout-out and admitting he had assumed Davido disliked him.

“The next day, Omah Lay tweeted something like, ‘Wow! Davido gave me a shout-out on a livestream, I thought he hated me,’” Davido recalled. “So I DMed him and asked, ‘Why would you think I hate you? We’ve never even met.’”

Davido said the conversation opened the door for communication between them, leading to the exchange of phone numbers and studio sessions.

“We eventually exchanged numbers and started going back and forth with music,” he added. “We did about four songs, and he chose ‘With You’ as the one we would release.”
