English actor and comedian Russell Brand has publicly criticised his ex-wife Katy Perry’s reported relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, making the remarks during an appearance at the Turning Point USA AmericaFest conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
Brand, who was speaking about conservatism in the United States and his conversion to Christianity, briefly shifted focus to Perry, whom he was married to between 2010 and 2012. Addressing the audience, he joked that while he had no issue with Perry’s former partner Orlando Bloom, he was unhappy about being associated with Trudeau, whom he criticised in strong terms.
Representatives for Perry have not responded to the comments.
Perry and Bloom began dating in 2016, got engaged in 2019, and welcomed a daughter, Daisy Dove, in 2020. The pair announced the end of their relationship in July. Shortly after, Perry was linked to Trudeau, with both appearing together on social media earlier this month.
Russell Brand, now 50, has been married to Laura Gallacher since 2017, and they share three children.
Meanwhile,Russell Brand is currently facing multiple criminal charges in the United Kingdom, including rape and sexual assault, relating to allegations made by four women over incidents said to have occurred between 1999 and 2005. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and the case is ongoing.
