Two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has praised Jake Paul for his resilience and performance following their fight in Miami on Friday.
The bout saw the YouTuber-turned-boxer adopt a cautious approach early on, staying out of Joshua’s range and avoiding prolonged exchanges. Paul resisted engagement until Joshua eventually closed the distance and began to land decisive shots.
Despite suffering a fractured jaw, the 28-year-old American endured six rounds against the British heavyweight, earning respect from his opponent.
Speaking after the fight, Anthony Joshua admitted that the contest did not represent his best outing but acknowledged Paul’s toughness.
“It wasn’t the best performance,” Joshua said. “The end goal was to get Jake Paul, pin him down and hurt him. That was the request leading up, and that was on my mind.
“It took a bit longer than expected, but the right hand finally found the destination. Jake Paul — he’s done really well tonight. I want to give him his props. He got up time and time again. It takes a real man to do that.”
Anthony Joshua’s comments underline the respect Paul earned for his determination, even in defeat.
