Former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said he maintains a strong relationship with Peter Obi and remains open to supporting him politically.
Datti made this known in a recent interview, days after he expressed interest in contesting the presidency following Obi’s defection from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He clarified that his decision to declare interest in the presidency, despite running as vice-presidential candidate in the last election, does not signal a breakdown in his relationship with Obi.
According to Datti, both men still share a solid bond even though they currently belong to different political parties.
He stated that should Obi fail to secure the ADC presidential ticket, he would welcome him back to the Labour Party and support his ambition.
Datti also revealed that Obi did not inform him before moving to the ADC, noting that Obi likely understood he would not defect alongside him.
“Me and Mr Peter Obi have solid relationship. If Peter Obi doesn’t get the ticket in ADC, he should come back to the Labour Party, I will back him to get the ticket even though he did not tell me anything about the ADC party because he knew I will not join.”
