Pop icon Britney Spears has declared that she will never perform live in the United States again, citing “extremely sensitive reasons.”
The 44-year-old singer made the revelation in an Instagram post on Thursday, where she shared a photo of herself seated at a white Yamaha grand piano during the 2002 American Music Awards. At the ceremony, Britney famously performed I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman from the movie Crossroads.
In her caption, the Toxic hitmaker revealed plans to gift the piano to one of her sons, explaining that dancing on social media has been a form of healing for her.
“Sending this piano to my son this year!!!” she wrote. “Interestingly enough, I dance on (Instagram) to heal things in my body that people have no idea about… but I walked through the fire to save my life.”
Britney went on to state that she has no intention of performing again in the U.S., but hinted at possible appearances abroad.
“But I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son… in the UK and AUSTRALIA very soon,” she added.
The singer shares two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline. While she did not specify which son she plans to perform with, Britney Spears has previously praised Jayden’s piano skills, describing him as a “genius.”
She also recently posted a mirror selfie with her younger son, writing, “He’s a huge star and I’m so humbled to be in his presence!!! God speed, little man!!!”
Britney Spears has remained estranged from much of her family since the end of her 13-year conservatorship in November 2021, though recent posts suggest she is rebuilding her relationship with her sons.
