Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again voiced his opposition to Bad Bunny headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show, describing the global music star as a “terrible choice” for the high-profile performance.
Speaking to the New York Post, Trump doubled down on his criticism, saying the decision to feature the Puerto Rican artist would only deepen divisions.
“I’m anti-them. I think it’s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible,” Trump said.
Bad Bunny, who holds U.S. citizenship through Puerto Rico—a U.S. territory—was recently announced as the Halftime Show performer, a decision that has generated widespread discussion both within and outside the music industry.
This is not the first time Trump has publicly criticised the Super Bowl’s entertainment choices. When Bad Bunny’s performance was initially announced, Trump dismissed the artist, claiming unfamiliarity with his work.
“I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy,” Trump said at the time.
He also blamed the selection on event promoters, adding, “And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick the entertainment—I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
Trump further confirmed that he will not be attending the Super Bowl, distancing himself entirely from the event.
Despite the criticism, the Super Bowl remains one of the most-watched sporting events in the world, drawing an average audience of over 100 million viewers. Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show performance is therefore expected to attract massive global attention, regardless of Trump’s disapproval.
