“₦40,000 to Serve Me as Your Lord and Saviour” — Speed Darlington’s House Help Post Sparks Outrage Online

Speed Darlington

Nigerian entertainer and internet personality Speed Darlington has once again set social media ablaze, this time over a controversial post about recruiting a house help that many Nigerians have described as shocking, insulting, and out of touch with reality.

In a statement that quickly went viral, Speed Darlington announced he was searching for a domestic worker, adding conditions that immediately raised eyebrows.

“I’m now looking for house help, male or female, but preferably female. The monthly pay will be ₦40,000 to serve only me, even if I have plenty people in my house you are serving only me as your lord and Saviour,” he said.

The post instantly triggered backlash, with many Nigerians questioning whether a ₦40,000 monthly salary in 2026 was serious or simply a joke taken too far. Critics argued that the amount does not reflect current living costs and accused the entertainer of trivialising domestic labour.

Others focused on his choice of words, describing the “lord and saviour” remark as disrespectful and inappropriate, especially in a country grappling with unemployment and economic hardship.

As expected, social media platforms quickly filled up with reactions. Some users turned the post into memes and jokes, while others called Speed Darlington out for what they described as insensitivity and exploitation.

A section of his followers defended him, insisting that he is known for trolling and provocative humour, and that the post should not be taken literally. However, many others maintained that joking about workers’ welfare crosses a line, regardless of intent.

Once again, Speed Darlington has proven that anything he posts — whether music, rants, or even job offers — rarely goes unnoticed. With this latest controversy, the internet remains divided between those laughing it off and those demanding accountability.
