Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama has advised women not to rush into moving in with a partner too early in a relationship.
Speaking on the IMO podcast, Michelle Obama emphasized the importance of time and patience before taking such a significant step.
“If it’s early in a relationship, you shouldn’t be moving in. I don’t care how much money he has, you do not know him yet!” she said.
She cautioned that moving in prematurely could come with unexpected consequences, especially if a partner turns out to be different from what was initially presented.
“What will you do if you find out that he lied about something or is different from who you thought he was after moving in together? Moving in early is almost like signing a contract — you’re in for it. Why would you even consider that so soon?” she asked.
Michelle Obama stressed that couples should allow themselves enough time to truly understand each other before making such commitments.
“I think you should wait for a couple of years because you barely know him. Get to know each other a few more years before considering moving in together,” she advised.
Her comments have since sparked conversations online about relationship timelines and the importance of building a solid foundation before taking major steps.
