Former First Lady Michelle Obama has revealed she recently got 10 new ear piercings — all in one sitting.
Speaking on the February 11 episode of the IMO Podcast, which she co-hosts with her brother Craig Robinson, the 62-year-old opened up about her spontaneous decision to add more jewellery to her ears.
“Put one there… let’s try one there”
The siblings were discussing what they have learned about each other since launching the podcast when Robinson teased her:
“What I’ve learned is that you tried to get your ears pierced and thought I didn’t notice. And I see you got all these new piercings in your ear.”
Michelle initially pushed back, joking that he probably hadn’t noticed. But she soon explained that she had been considering extra piercings for years.
“I have always thought about getting some extra piercings in my ear and just never got around to it,” she said, recalling that she once had a second hole done before having children but eventually stopped wearing earrings there.
Inspired by younger people in her life and modern jewellery trends — particularly clustered “constellation” styles — she finally decided to act.
“I was going in for a few,” she said. “But then as I sat there, I kept saying, ‘Oh, put one there and put one there… yeah, let’s try one there.’”
The result?
“So in one sitting, I’ve got 10 piercings.”
Barack Took Three Days to Notice
When Robinson jokingly reacted with “Ouch,” Michelle quickly reassured him that the experience “wasn’t bad at all.”
She also shared a lighthearted moment involving her husband, former President Barack Obama.
According to her, it took him three days to realise she had new piercings.
“He was like, ‘You haven’t had your hair up, you’ve had your hair down,’” she said, teasing that she sleeps next to him every night and still managed to surprise him.
